How are we doing? Is there anything you would like to tell us?
The city is doing well, but we must continue to anticipate likely challenges and changes. In my view the challenges include: anticipating changing weather patterns as part of overall climate change (difficult to know exactly what will happen - so we need to be prepared for a range of scenarios) ; recognising that retail shopping is moving both to an online convenience, at the same time that a desire for personal interaction increases (there will likely be an increase in bespoke, sustainable, and service transactions which work best in a more intimate retail setting, while day-to-day purchases are moving to online, automated, delivered arrangements); transport needs will both diminish and become more diverse (this may mean different routes need enhancement) ; some industries will thrive, while others may disappear quickly (so we need to support both scenarios). We must embrace change, and remember that we are nearly a quarter of the way into this century.

What other ideas should we be thinking about to include in future plans for our city?
We need to start taking action on a managed retreat from the coasts - no new building permits in low-lying areas, continue to consult with residents and businesses in South Dunedin; recognise that the costal landscape will change - dunes may disappear. Most of all build a community expectation of change.
