How are we doing? Is there anything you would like to tell us?
pretty good on most fronts - loving the George St upgrades. On the District Plan front, in regards to inner City developments and our local music scene could be better. Support for venues & musicians also could be better

What other ideas should we be thinking about to include in future plans for our city?
Our music heritage is world-class, from the Tumbleweeds to Look Blue Go Purple to Death & the Maiden to Nadia Reid, and all genres and musicians in between. However - our current live music scene is in a less than ideal spot to continue building on that heritage, and building regulations are one avenue by which Council can support our scene. we need realistic and adequate regulations -current sound mitigation regulations are not that. This is not good for us or prospective apartment owners & business owners. Plan for Noise - we are a growing city, it is going to get noisier - let’s get out ahead of it This is of course not the only difficulty facing my community - I've got a rehearsal space at home, and am not impacted by the need to locate and hire a space - but there are many many young and not so young bands who are utterly hobbled by the dearth of such spaces. I want us as a city to be vibrant, inclusive and welcoming, and the inner city is a great place to start. We also need to support current venues - The Crown comes to mind. And we need to support new venue ventures. I also want to say that this is sadly not a new concern - my contemporaries and I have been asking Council to regulate accordingly, and to support us for at least 30 years now. Very little has been done in real terms, in actuality it has gotten worse.
It's time........change the District Plan. Support our live music scene in all its aspects, encourage, through regulation, developers to acoustically mitigate appropriately for all concerned. Subsidise practise spaces. Make Dunedin Venues Ltd more accessible to performers. I do understand that Council has this firmly on their radar. I'm here to in my small way - to make sure it stays there.
