Kia ora koutou,
I moved to Ōtepoti in June 2022 from the West Coast. City highlights so far include the amazing live music scene here! Growing up in the Waikato I didn't get the same exposure to awesome bands and the amazing supportive culture that goes with it, I'm constantly amazed at how this city continues to produce some really great musicians. I wish I'd had that as a teenager. So, learning how many venues have closed over the past few years, and the remaining ones that are threatened by noise complaints due to a lack of council protection (through allowing apartments etc to be built without soundproofing - essentially doing a 'cheap job', and other complaints...), I was like are you actually serious? I think the DCC has a unique opportunity here to show their ongoing support of this amazing resource the city has to offer by protecting live music venues as part of the 10 year plan.
