How are we doing? Is there anything you would like to tell us?
There appears to be little support for the performing arts industry in our community. As a member of the community, I believe that the performing arts are an important part of our cultural fabric, and our city's heritage and it is disappointing to see the lack of attention given to this sector. One of the most significant issues that I have noticed is the lack of a suitable venue for local and touring productions. Without a proper venue, it is difficult for performers to showcase their talents and for audiences to enjoy their performances. Access in most exisiting venues is poor and it is essential that the council supports these existing venues as well as invests in creating a suitable venue that can accommodate a variety of performances. I have visited may centres around New Zealand and Dunedin's investment in this area doesn't stack up to other areas. Additionally, I have noticed a lack of policy protecting music venues from noise complaints. This lack of policy puts music venues at risk of closure and is further harming the performing arts industry. The Dunedin sound is huge part of our cultural heritage and it is crucial that the council take steps to protect these venues and ensure that venues can operate without fear of being shut down. I believe that the performing arts are an essential part of our community, and it is crucial that the council takes steps to support and promote this industry. I would like to express my appreciation and support for the current redevelopment of George Street. As a resident, I have been impressed with the positive changes and believe that the project will have a significant impact on our community's economic, social, and cultural wellbeing. The new design, which prioritizes pedestrian access, social spaces, and disability access, is a major improvement over the previous design. The aesthetic improvements such as new street furniture, lighting, and landscaping have also contributed to creating an attractive and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. The project has transformed the main street into a vibrant and enjoyable space for the community to gather, shop, and socialize. I am looking forward to the completion of the project! I would also like to see this project extended to the Octagon and other areas such as the Exchange. The continuation of this redevelopment would provide more opportunities for the community to come together, support local businesses and promote a sense of community pride. The octagon as it currently is, provides poor space and facility for events and could be utilised more with a better layout. The council's investment in these projects demonstrates a commitment to creating an inclusive, accessible, and vibrant community for all residents. It's been nice to see new street art in the city, particularly in South Dunedin. I am disappointed in the lack of action around the South Dunedin community hub. This project has huge potential to improve the overall well being of the community, provide easy access to resources, promote literacy, learning, and social engagement. A library would also provide a safe and welcoming space for residents, particularly children and young people, to learn and grow. It would also be a huge step in revitalising the South Dunedin area to reflect the vibrant and diverse community. I would like to express my support for the current playground developments and urge the council to continue its efforts in developing safe, accessible, and inclusive play spaces.

What other ideas should we be thinking about to include in future plans for our city?
As a resident, I believe that access to reliable and sustainable transport options is critical for our community's economic, environmental, and social wellbeing. One of the most pressing issues that I have noticed is the lack of infrastructure for environmentally friendly public transport. The reliance on old diesel buses is unacceptable in this day and age when we know the negative impact on the environment and human health. It is crucial that the council supports and promotes the investment in more environmentally friendly public transport options such as electric buses, along with keeping public transport an affordable transport option In addition to this, the lack of safe and comprehensive cycling infrastructure is a major concern. The current network of cycle infrastructure is disconnected and in some areas such as around the oval, poorly sign posted which leads to lower usage. Opening the Caversham tunnel for cycling and connecting and improving existing cycling routes would not only benefit the environment but also promote healthier lifestyles and reduce traffic congestion. The council needs to prioritize the creation of cycling infrastructure as an essential part of any transport plan. Furthermore, I believe that the council should support the reinstatement of the cable car on high street, which would offer an alternative and unique mode of transport while reducing traffic congestion. The cable car system has the potential to be an excellent attraction for visitors to the area, contributing to the local economy. I would like to see the council to thinking big about the future of transport and the needs of our community. A light railway system to Green Island, Fairfield, Mosgiel and the airport would provide a more convenient and efficient mode of transport and would benefit the community and the environment in the long term. I would love to see the addition of a bike share system with docking stations.
