How are we doing? Is there anything you would like to tell us?
I support the Tunnels Trail project to develop a Shared Path/Cycleway between Mosgiel and Caversham. The Tunnels trail project should be given immediate and high priority, without delay, with a focus of delivering operational sections as soon as possible. The tunnels trail is Dunedin's internal transport corridor between the coast and the Plain, as well as our link to the wider Otago cycleway network. This project needs be ready for the Clutha gold trail extension, which has connected Lawrence to Milton and is now proceeding at pace to connect to Waihola and Mosgiel.

What other ideas should we be thinking about to include in future plans for our city?
The existing cycle lanes could do with some improvements to design. Fully separated lanes at intersections are needed as per Cumberland St Dundas St intersection where the cycle lane narrows at the intersection but is still separated. The intersection prior at Howe St is unprotected. This leaves the cyclist ( myself ) feeling exposed, as lot of fast traffic pushes through at rush hour coming into town. I would also like to have regular street sweeping of the cycle ways due to the mount of glass. Illegal parking over some or all of the cycle way is common. This dangerous for the cyclist. Policing by traffic wardens may help. TMC parking their vehicle over the cycle way has happened more than once. They know better, their convenience over your safety, as you have to leave the cycle lane and join the traffic. In addition to this the placement of road signs on part of the cycle lane is plain dangerous. Additional toilets are needed on the Otago peninsula at road ends. Okia reserve, Sandfly Bay and Allans Beach. These are all popular areas for residents and tourists.
