How are we doing? Is there anything you would like to tell us?
Thank you for the George Street improvements- more space for pedestrians make our city centre a more pleasant place to spend time and shop! But where is the contraflow cycle lane that was on the original plans? It has been replaced by unnecessary parking spaces. It is a shared pedestrian & cycle space but the only way to cycle north is against the traffic. Please fix this. Thank you for lowering speed limits around schools. But this does not go far enough. We need 30km/h speed limits throughout urban areas, and especially along routes to schools not just around schools. Surely it would be simpler and cheaper to just have all urban residential and city centre areas 30km/h with the exception of SH1 and a few corridors, rather than frequent changes in speed limit requiring lots of signage, which will need to be changed again in a few years anyway?

What other ideas should we be thinking about to include in future plans for our city?
There are still too many cars driving around in circles looking for a park. Keep parking in just one or two large designated car parks. Maybe a few spaces for disabled people only. Or better still have free electric shuttle buses from car parks around the shops for people who can’t walk. Keep traffic to just a few through routes using modal filters. Look at the evidence - pedestrianising increases trade and internationally there are so many places where shop owners initially opposed pedestrianisation but trade increased and now they are fully in favour. We also need to improve public transport including commuter rail to Mosgiel. Public transport has to be cheaper and more convenient than driving and parking.
